The Bernina Express offers breath-taking vistas from the beautiful 1st and 2nd class panorama cars. Ride over graceful viaducts, through galleries hewn into the sheer rock, through switch-back tunnels, along rushing mountain streams, glaciers and even an alpine garden. Technical buffs will enjoy knowing that the train climbs up to the 2253 m high Bernina Pass without the help of a rack-and-pinion mechanism. The entire trip is narrated. In summer, an optional bus connects Tirano (Italy) to Lugano.

This unusual boat, operated purely on solar energy, offers a brunch cruise every Sunday in summer and can be rented for private events, whether this is a seminar or a party.

Lake Biel is ringed by romantic vineyards that offer some of Switzerland’s loveliest hikes. Or enjoy the St. Peter’s Island, where Rousseau once wrote some of his most seminal works.

One of the prettiest river cruises is between Solothurn and Biel on the Aare. Here, visitors get to see Altreu with its imposing stork colony and Büren, a charming medieval village with a beautifully crafted wooden covered bridge. Then it is on to the rocks of Port, where the water level of the Jura lakes are regulated.

The Three-Lakes cruise (Lake Biel, Lake Neuchâtel, Lake Murten) takes in the vineyards of Lake Biel, the romantic St. Peter’s Island, the Zihl and Broye Canal and finally winds up in medieval Murten.

Winter Cruise: the Three-Lakes cruise is also possible from November through March on every Sunday.

The flotilla on Lake Lucerne consists of five nostalgic lake steamers and 15 elegant salon motor boats. Together, these twenty boats ply the lake on various routes that add up to 38 kilometers. Along the way, passengers will be able to admire nature at its best: gently rolling meadows, idyllic bays, dramatic fjords, and near-vertical cliffs. Add to this natural spectacle some of Switzerland’s most significant historic landmarks: see the Ruetli Meadow, where the Swiss Confederation was founded in 1291, William Tell’s Chapel, and the Schiller Rock.

The boats run daily and year round. They connect famous resorts to hiking trails and cable car stations. An excellent excursion departing from Alpnachstad is by world’s steepest cogwheel train to Mt. Pilatus. In Lucerne, Brunnen, Flüelen and Alpnachstad, passengers have the option to connect to international train routes.

Apart from the Wilhelm Tell Express, the Lake Lucerne Navigation Company offers other attractive arrangements, such as the Lunch Boat (daily, all year round), the Cake Boat, Sundown Cruises, the Fondue Boat, the Sushi Boat and the Jazz Cruise on the steamer, as well as many more special offers of the musical and culinary sort. Beyond that, most courses include an innovative gastronomic experience. The chef’s team at the Tavolago loves to cook, and it shows!
Routes:
Lucerne – Weggis – Vitznau – Beckenried – Brunnen – Flüelen
Lucerne – Stansstad – Alpnachstad
Lucerne – Küssnacht am Rigi

Travel on the famous Swiss mountain railways from St.Moritz to Zermatt and vice versa or from Piz Bernina to the Matterhorn. A 7.5 hour railway journey across 291 bridges, through 91 tunnels and across the Oberalp Pass at 2033 metres in altitude. A panoramic trip through the Alps in the heart of Switzerland. The Glacier Express travels a beautiful route between the sights of the Graubünden holiday region, the sunny Valais region with its glacier landscape, and the beautiful regions of the South. Travel in comfort through the unspoilt natural beauty of a landscape rich in ancient, fragrant moun- tain forests, peaceful Alpine meadows, rushing mountain streams and mountain valleys, soaked in tradition and centuries-old culture.

Moreover, it stands for a ticket selection which realizes foreign travelers’ touristic needs and which helps foreign guests using public transport with its all-encompassing offer. The most popular transport ticket is the Swiss Pass, which gives travelers access to the entire network of Swiss trains, buses, boats and urban transport systems. It is managed by the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) in Bern.

Tourists entering Switzerland either through its neighboring borders or its airports, will find a seamless system of public transportation which includes comfortable InterCity trains, fast and regional trains, romantic mountain trains, proud fleets of boats and joyous yellow postal buses which connect cities, mountains, lakes and valleys.

A highlight of any Swiss trip must be the scenic routes which show our beautiful country from its best side. Enjoy the sights from the panoramic windows of a train, a boat deck or one of the yellow Postbuses, and get to know Switzerland’s natural beauty in a spectacular manner.

There are eight panorama routes by train, bus or boat, as well as 22 ideas for some interesting excursions full of new experiences and sights. There are new panorama cars on several routes, giving you even bigger windows from which to enjoy the sights. Also be sure to take advantage of the gastronomic offerings on the many train and boat routes.

Swiss Pass is valid on practically all of the mentioned routes (exceptions are explicitly stated). Some train, Postbus and boat rides impose an additional and mandatory seat reservation (including a supplement) which is charged separately. If buying your tickets abroad, make your seat reservations well in advance at your point of sale, or once in Switzerland, go to any larger Swiss train station.
